Right to Buy
The Right to buy scheme is a scheme run by the council which gives eligible council tenants the right to buy their property from their council at a discounted price. This enables many tenants who maybe would not have been able to afford to purchase their own proprty a chance to get on the property ladder.
A right to buy deal is available to you if you have been a secure council tenant for at least two years (or five years if you became a tenant after 18 January 2005). This means that you are likely to have the Right to buy your council home at a discounted price. The discount you are entitled to depends on the property, area and length of tenancy.
